An estimated 55 million people died in World War II
- Only 17 million were soldiers; the rest were civilians
- Approximately 500,000 gypsies*-One third of their population-were murdered by the Nazi's.
- Eleven million people were murdered in the Nazi death camps.
- Over six million of Europe's 8.6 million Jews were murdered between 1933 and 1945.
- Of Poland's prewar Jewish population of 3.5 million, only ten percent survived.
*The correct name for these people is Roma or Sinti. Hitler Persecuted them because they were a darkskinned ethnic Minority he considered inferior.
